MANDY GROVES - HEAD ROOM SESSIONS NO. 34

Sporting a yellow utility jumpsuit that can only be pulled off by the coolest of women, Mandy Groves takes the stage between two spot lights for Head Room Sessions #34. Accompanied by a slick recorded track, Mandy opens with Consequence, a song off of her 2016 EP entitled Phases. A stripped-down groove, she tells a relatable story about falling for the wrong person and all of the internal questions that arise when intuition is ignored.

After the crowd is warmed up to Mandy’s unique sound, she follows up with Weakness, an edgier cut showcasing her soulful and impressive vocals. Also off of her first EP, she continues to explore the dynamics of a tumultuous relationship — her introspective and honest lyrics passionately delivered to a captivated audience. Mandy finishes her set with a track from her 2019 EP, teasing the new material with the collection’s brief intro track, which embodies the themes explored in Blame - betrayal, dishonesty, heartache and yes, blame.

What is primarily a pop R&B sound, is also infused with soul, jazz and funk, creating unexpected moments within Mandy’s music. This, combined with her vulnerable style of songwriting and a look a lovely as her voice, make Mandy Groves a beguiling talent that will be exciting to watch grow in the coming years.
